About

My name is Matt Yi and my passion is to help others through their difficult times. I’ve experienced various struggles including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, substance abuse, addictions, religious trauma and other difficult trials. However, I was able to change, heal, and grow because many people have helped me THROUGH those challenging seasons. This is how I realized my passion – to help others through their difficult times.

I have worked with adolescents, retirees, and everyone in between. I have coached and helped people through strenuous times to have them come out stronger and more resilient. I am not a licensed counselor, but I have taken master’s level counseling courses and have years of informal counseling experience.

The majority of my professional career has been as a Christian pastor. After enduring some painful experiences from a few church leaders, I knew I needed to take a break from working in a church. But because of these difficult seasons in the church, I have grown a special heart for two groups of people – those who have left the church and are deconstructing faith/spirituality, as well as, those who are working in a church context.

As seasoned guides walked me through the Enneagram, I was able to better understand myself and others. It helped me to accept my weaknesses, while turning my strengths into superpowers. This self-awareness has given me the tools and understanding to move forward in life and I hope to do this for others.

I have lived in Philadelphia (Go Birds!), Cleveland, Chicago, NYC, and now I currently live in the suburbs of Washington DC (Northern VA) with my wonderful wife, three amazing children and our goofy bernedoodle. My life joys are listening to people’s stories, discovering new cuisines with my wife, and making my children laugh.
